Jacob and his team have done great work on our two commercial pools. After the hurricane he had every opportunity to price gouge us like almost everyone is doing, but instead he gave us a very fair deal and showed up to help us get back online. Very grateful to have a good and honest pool company who has our back. Highly recommend this company.
Pool Equipment Repair & Troubleshooting.
The pad is where most pool problems actually start — a pump that won't prime, a filter bleeding pressure, a salt cell that stopped generating, a timer that drifted. Our equipment service diagnoses the real fault (not just the symptom), swaps the wear parts we can do on-site the same visit, and gives you a straight repair-vs-replace answer on the big-ticket units instead of a sales pitch. Where a job crosses into licensed contractor scope — gas lines, sealed refrigerant systems, major re-plumbing — we tell you, and we refer it out with no markup.
When to book Equipment repair.
Any Pinellas or west-Hillsborough pool owner whose equipment is throwing errors, losing pressure, running loud, tripping the breaker, or just not keeping the water clear despite good chemistry. Also home buyers who want the equipment pad assessed before closing.
What's included
- Full pad diagnostic — pump, filter, salt cell, heater, timer/automation, and plumbing unions checked as a system, not one part in isolation
- Pump service: shaft seal and O-ring replacement, basket and lid gasket swaps, motor capacitor replacement, priming-loss and air-leak diagnosis
- Filter service: cartridge replacement, DE grid inspection, sand/media change-out, pressure-gauge and air-relief repair, multiport valve spider-gasket swaps
- Salt cell diagnosis: voltage/amperage reading, scale acid-bath, flow-sensor and salt-sensor testing, cell replacement when it's genuinely at end of life
- Timer & automation: mechanical timer repair, and troubleshooting on Pentair, Hayward, and Jandy control panels
- Minor heater parts on-site — pressure switches, ignition modules, thermistors, capacitors (major heater work referred, see FAQ)
- A written diagnosis with photos, part numbers, and a firm repair-vs-replace recommendation you can take anywhere
When you need this service
Pump won't prime, is screeching or humming, or leaks at the seal. Filter pressure climbs fast or won't come down after a clean. Salt panel shows 'check cell,' 'no flow,' or low chlorine despite running. Breaker trips when the pad powers on. Water stays cloudy or green even though your chemistry tests fine — that's almost always circulation or filtration, i.e. an equipment fault, not a chemical one.
Pricing
Diagnostic visit is a flat $95 in Pinellas County (waived if you proceed with the repair, and credited if you start weekly service). Common on-site repairs — shaft seals, capacitors, gaskets, pressure switches, cartridge swaps — typically run $120–$350 all-in including parts. Salt cell and pump-motor replacements are quoted at manufacturer part cost plus a flat labor fee, with no markup on the hardware. Weekly-service customers get priority scheduling and diagnostics included.
Pool service questions, answered.
What homeowners ask us most often about pool service in Equipment repair.
Do you repair pool pumps, or just replace them?
Both — and we start with repair whenever the math favors it. Most pump complaints (loss of prime, a screeching bearing, a leaking shaft seal, a motor that hums but won't start) are a seal kit, a capacitor, or an O-ring — a $120–$300 same-visit fix, not a new pump. We only recommend full replacement when the motor is burned out, the wet-end housing is cracked, or a single-speed pump is old enough that a variable-speed upgrade pays for itself in power savings.
My pool equipment keeps tripping the breaker — what's wrong?
Usually one of three things: a failing pump motor drawing too much current, water intrusion into the motor or a junction box (very common on Pinellas pads exposed to rain and salt air), or a GFCI that's doing its job because there's a genuine ground fault. We test amperage draw and insulation resistance to tell a dying motor apart from a wiring problem — the fix is very different, and guessing gets expensive.
Should I repair or replace my pool pump or filter?
Our rule of thumb: if the unit is under 6–7 years old and the repair is under about half the replacement cost, repair it. Past that age, or when the housing itself is compromised, replace — and on pumps, replace a single-speed with a variable-speed model. Duke Energy and other Florida utilities run rebates on variable-speed pumps that, combined with the power savings, usually pay back the upgrade inside two years.
Why is my pool still cloudy when my chemistry is perfect?
That's the classic sign the problem is on the pad, not in the water. Balanced chemistry with persistent cloudiness points to a circulation or filtration fault: a filter bypassing internally (torn cartridge, cracked DE grid, blown multiport spider gasket), a pump not moving enough water, or channeling in a sand filter. We find the failure point instead of having you keep pouring in clarifier that a broken filter will never capture.
What equipment work do you refer out instead of handling?
We're a service company, not a licensed pool or gas contractor, and we're straight about that line. Gas-line work and heat-exchanger replacement, sealed-system refrigerant work on heat pumps, and major re-plumbing or pool-structure repairs go to licensed contractors we trust — with no referral markup and the diagnostic write-up handed to you. Everything on the electrical/mechanical pad short of that, we handle directly. See our heater guide for the repair-vs-replace breakdown on that specific unit.

Pool Optics have done a great job of keeping my pool clean every week, and they are really affordable on the services they offer!
I can't say enough good things about Jacob at Pool Optics, by far the best pool service that I've had. I own an Air BnB and Jacob has always been able to keep the pool perfect for my tenants. I've been through a number of companies over the years until I found Jacob — he is a true professional who goes above and beyond.
After my pool was flooded by hurricane Helene with class three water, these guys brought it back to life — and they did it in a professional, timely, and responsive fashion! Couldn't recommend them more highly!
Thanks to Jacob at Pool Optics my pool has never looked better in the 6 years I've lived in Tampa. He's very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Would recommend to anyone. 5 stars!
A+ service in my book! Jacob was very educated on pools and chemicals and helped me get my pool from green to crystal clear in no time. Will definitely recommend and use again!
Stellar service! If you're looking for a solid pool company that answers immediately and gets you in early — this is your stop. Jacob is incredible. We purchased a home in Oldsmar with a heated salt water pool and had no clue what to do. Within 3 days he was out, cleaned the pool, and even cleared a TON of debris off our cage. Highly recommend!
Hired them to do my mom's pool. Her remarks were: responsive, excellent communication, and punctual. We will be using this service again.
Pool Optics is always on time. Jacob knows just how to keep the pool for my guests perfectly. Couldn't ask for better service.
